Severe Dental Disease is a Disease of Neglect!

Wow, that's a pretty strong statement!

Yep, it is. Strong words but true!

Dental disease develops slowly. It commonly takes years for a pet's dental health to go from good to terrible! That's plenty of time to notice the disease and start treatment IF you know what to look for!

We work hard to teach what to look for. There's information here, on this website. We also work with you every time you bring your pet in for a physical examination. A dental examination is part of every exam we do. We update our clients about changes in their pet's dental health at each visit.

Why would a person neglect the dental health of their pet?

The main reason is lack of education. People haven't learned about how important having a healthy, happy mouth is to their pet! Sure, some people don't care, others can't afford have the needed work done, but ignorance is the most common reason for this neglect!

We want to make sure that you know what to look for and what you need to do when dental disease first starts showing up, when it's easy to work on. We don't want you to find out about this the hard way, years later when your pet needs thousands of dollars worth of veterinary care to get back to having a pain free mouth!

Before you start to feel guilty let me remind you that veterinary medicine has neglected pets? dental health for years. Even today veterinarians graduate and go into practice with only minimal dental education. Veterinary colleges simply don?t take the time to educate them! Many veterinarians don?t understand the importance of good dental health or don?t take the time to educate their clients

We think dental education is important! We see it as our responsibility to make sure that you learn about dental health care in your pet. After all, you decide what is done to maintain your pet?s dental health. We want you to have the knowledge that will stop you from neglecting your pet?s oral health needs.

An Ounce of Prevention?

Dental disease in pets is no fun! It?s no fun for either you or your pet! For them it's a disease that slowly eats away at their quality of life. It gradually worsening until after years of eating away at your pet?s mouth, every one their days is a struggle.

Dental disease is a double-edged sword that cuts you by harming both your pet and your bank account. It is often very costly to treat advanced dental disease! Disease that can usually be inexpensively prevented can cost several thousand dollars to treat!

Clearly dental disease is one of those "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure!" type problems. It's really pretty simple. Brushing costs little. Advanced dental disease and cost well over a thousand dollars to treat, and that number does not include the pain and suffering endured by the pet!

We work on Prevention with our clients, starting when we first see the pets as puppies or kittens. This focus on prevention continues with every office visit. We want to make sure that you understand what you can do to help your pet avoid painful and costly dental disease.
