Electrocardiography Services:
We provide ECG services on-site as well as consultations with cardiology specialists.
Laboratory:
Laboratory tests are a vital part of the process of diagnosing your pet's medical problems. Without them we would very often just be guessing as to what disease sick pets were suffering from.
Some veterinary facilities have only very basic laboratory facilities. This very severely limits their ability to arrive at a diagnosis for your pet's medical problem.
We have the equipment and trained, licensed staff to do the following tests in-house (that means we do the tests here in Portville and you and your pet don't need to wait a day or so for results to come back from an outside lab.)
· Bacterial Culture and Sensitivity - This first tells us if there is a bacterial infection and second, what that bacteria is and which antibiotic has the best chance of wiping it out.
· Bile acid liver tests - Up until recently Bile Acid test could only be done at outside labs which often means waiting several days for the results to come back. Now we can do these tests here in Portville. Bile acids tell us how well the liver is functioning.
· Complete automated CBC (Complete Blood Count) including Platelets, Reticulocytes, Eosinophils and nucleated RBCs. Automated CBC equipment has been available for 15 or so years. Equipment that can give reliable counts on all the important cells has only recently become available. We have the latest equipment.
· Complete Urinalysis. This is a pretty simple test that gives very important information IF done correctly. We have the equipment and trained, licensed staff to do it right!
· Fecal flotation via centrifugation, the absolutely best way of diagnosing infections with intestinal parasites.
· Manual evaluation of a blood smear for every CBC. Many veterinarians have automated CBC equipment. Unfortunately, that equipment alone provides only a partial view of the true picture of a pet's blood cells. Automated equipment often gets confused and spits out numbers that end up meaning nothing. Unless every automated CBC is couple with a trained professional reading the "smear", the results of the CBC are sometimes misleading.
· Routine blood chemistries such as liver, kidney and blood glucose tests.
· Serum electrolytes. These are especially important with cases of vomiting, diarrhea, dehydration and urinary obsturciton.
· T4 thyroid tests. The results of this test are especially important to older sick cats. Hyperthyroidism is a common disease that hits that group of pets. Our laboratory equipment allows us to get T4 results in less than an hour. What would you rather do, find out what's wrong with your pet in an hour or sit around for a day or two to get the results from an outside lab?

- Liquid Nitrogen Cryosurgery equipment. Cyrosurgery is a "kinder" way for us to surgical remove some small skin growths from pets. With this equipment we can "freeze" these growths which then are rejected by the body. This is less invasive, less painful and less costly than removing them by cutting them out with a scalpel blade.
- Human-quality Suction equipment. Suction isn't needed very often during surgery but when it is pets' lives can depend on it working right. Out equipment is the same that is used in many human hospitals.
