Specialists, Online Specialists
and up-to-the-minute veterinary information
Veterinary Medicine is changing at a dizzying pace. Hardly a day goes by without information coming out on a new drug, piece of equipment or technique for treating disease. Keeping up with the changes takes a major investment of time. Not keeping up leaves a veterinarian being unable to provide your pet with the best treatment possible.
Providing the "best" often means enlisting the help of a specialist. Sometimes this means that you, the owner, need to spend time and money transporting your pet to the specialist. Good examples of this is when pets need the skills of an orthopedic surgeon or a veterinary ophthalmologist. In those cases there is no alternative other getting in the car and making the trip.
Sometimes though, we can save you time and money by doing the work from here in Portville. We try to do that whenever possible but only when we can do that without sacrificing your pet's health.
Below we have information on great tools that we use here at Portville Veterinary Clinic. We use them to provide us with the expertise that can only be gotten from tapping into the brain of a specialist.
Sometimes we are able to do that without you needing to make a trip. We can often get vital help from specialists online by using our Veterinary Infomation Network's (VIN's) contacts. We also are able to get Dr. Blevins' expertise online.
In other cases, however, you'll need to make a trip with your pet. Sometimes the best way to treat a sick pet is to have the pet seen by one of the specialists in Buffalo or Cornell Veterinary College.
