We don't need no stinking specialized tools!
This picture, although humorous, graphically illustrates the way dentistry used to be performed in human dentistry. Although old-time veterinary dental tools weren't much more sophisticated than that pair of pliers, at least the pets were under anesthesia!
Until the last 10 years not much had changed in veterinary medicine dentistry. The tools used for extractions were very crude when compared to the new air-driven high-speed handpiece equipment. Result? Pets who have extractions performed by a skilled veterinarian using the new equipment are much less painful after surgery and heal much more rapidly.
Air-Powered Dental Cart
This piece of equipment packs all the tools that surround you in your dentist's chair into a mobile cart. It has a high-speed handpiece, polishing handpiece, air-water syringe and suction. This is the equipment we use to treat our patients' dental disease.
It simply is not possible to perform high-quality dental work without having this type of equipment. Without it extractions are done in a crude manner. Teeth are levered out of the jaw bone. Teeth are often broken with the broken pieces often left in. End result? Pets treated using the "old methods" often suffer needlessly.
